Whatever day it is, Beach Berry is open.
The frozen yogurt shop opened June 11 as the first non-baseball-related business at the Maritime Park. It occupies the stadium’s western retail spot, to the right of the main gates.
The shop operates on a self-serve basis. When customers arrive, they take an empty cup and can choose between fourteen to sixteen flavors of frozen yogurt on any given day. Then come the toppings. With over 150 to choose from, there’s something for everyone — fresh fruit, sprinkles, candy bar pieces, nuts, cereal, and sauces.
“Obviously, the kids, they love it,” said owner Michael Ngo. “They get to choose whatever they want.”
Ngo’s own children were helping him behind the counter. He said that Beach Berry will cater to birthday parties and other youth events. Church groups receive a 20% discount for their parties.
While the Blue Wahoos games have been great for business, visitors can enjoy the park — and Beach Berry — on other days as well.
“The hardest part is that people have the conception that we’re only here during game time,” Ngo said. “We want to push it so that people know it’s always here. We’re open all the time.”
Beach Berry is open 11-9 on Monday through Thursday, 11-10 Friday and Saturday, and 11-8 Sunday. Later hours are observed on game nights. For more information, call 710-3067 or visit their Facebook page.

This business is doomed to fail. I cannot IMAGINE a reason why anyone would ever go to the stadium if a game or something is not going on. you know, such as weddings and boy scout awards.
That is the single largest issue with this park and commercial development, THERE IS NO ANCHOR PROJECT TO DRAW DAILY VISITORS!!!

that’s rude. you don’t know how they’re going to do, and what events they have when there are no baseball games. Unless you’re a fortune teller, you don’t know how well they will do in the future.

Let me tell you Vivian, it does not matter if you think it is rude or not. I can tell you that if they are paying rent 12 months a year, expenses, payroll it will take more than 70 days worth the business to make it. I have driven by there when there are no games, the park is largely void of activity from the public.
I continue to contend without an anchor project a business there is doomed to fail unless you are getting free rent or something whereas in that case again the taxpayers are being ripped off on their investment

You don’t know if they are doing good or not. I have been there before even when there are not games, and places like maritime park still does have many activities planned. You open a business before you start judging how well other businesses do. My opinion matters as much as yours, so don’t even say my opinions don’t matter. It’s really unnecessary to say this business is ‘doomed to fail’. Thank you!

Vivian, you need to realize that Dale Parker and others have opposed the Maritime Park at every step and they’re desperate for any opportunity to say “I told you so.” I’m sure he has no ill will toward the shop or its owner, but a private business investing its own money at the park? That’s dangerous stuff to them…. it could negate their whole argument! So they actually HOPE that a nice family business like this will fail. It’s pathetic.

Thanks for the news item on Beach Berry at the Maritime Park. My granddaughter and I walked over there yesterday – and spent a wonderful time together choosing among the now-17 flavors and 178 toppings! Looking out at the waterfront was pleasant, as were the other people in the restaurant. A great addition to downtown.
